About

René Morkos

René Morkos, Ph.D. is an inventor, founder, adjunct professor at Stanford University, and CEO of ALICE Technologies. He is the inventor of the world’s first Generative Construction Simulator and Optimizer, obtaining his Ph.D. in artificial intelligence applications for construction as a Charles H. Leavell fellow at Stanford University, where he currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. He is a second-generation civil engineer with over 15 years of experience in construction, divided between industry and academia.

Morkos founded ALICE technologies, the world's first construction optioneering platform in 2015. He invented the World’s first Generative Construction Simulator that ingests BIM models and user-defined rule sets which then generates millions of valid simulations to build a project.

ALICE’s mission is to reduce the cost of construction by 25% globally to allow for lower costs of living. From 2008 to 2011 Morkos served as the Head of Research and Development at Slavenburg BV Netherlands, where he developed a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and implemented the latest Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) technologies into the company's mainstream operations. Prior to that, he was an Automation Engineer, Project Engineer, and Project Manager at several international companies, where his operational experience included underwater pipeline construction, automation engineering on a $350 million gas refinery expansion project in Abu Dhabi, ERP system implementations, and various Virtual Design and Construction projects. He has also worked in wartime Afghanistan, managing teams in some of the world's most challenging environments to build projects of substantial humanitarian impact.

Morkos attended Stanford University from 2009 to 2014

and was a Charles H. Leavell Fellow and Ph.D. candidate. During this time, he developed the Operational Efficiency Frontier, a mathematically derived Pareto efficiency frontier that can be used to calculate the limits of space-time systems. He formalized the theoretical limits of the Critical Path Method (CPM) which is used to manage almost all construction projects globally. Finally, he operationalized the theoretical solutions in an algorithm that automatically generates millions of solutions for construction projects. Beginning in 2018, Morkos serves as an adjunct professor and lecturer at Stanford in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. He is teaching a new breed of construction production management, using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other theories; changing how the problem of construction production management is both formulated and solved.

Morkos is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and American General Contractors (AGC). He volunteers and teaches at San Quentin Prison. He is a researcher and adventurer, continuously exploring and teaching the theoretical boundaries of construction management and the evolution of future industries in order to better the world. He is also an avid mountaineer.
